Level of Detail

While traversing through a highway of stones and crates, the Adventurer senses a distant waterfall. She dashes towards it and imagines an enchanting sight, but as she approaches she is surprised by an abundance of sounds coloring the waterfall and its small pond. She did not notice the water drops or the sparkling foam until she was up close. - With a level of detail system, a sound can slowly be transformed into a more detailed soundscape or slowly change behavior on distance.

The main purpose of having a level of detail (LOD) system is to optimize performance with longer distances where the player would not notice any difference anyway.
