PROXIMITY game audio technology to be integrated into Wwise 2014.1 audio middleware

IOSONO’s new sound technology PROXIMITY will be integrated in Wwise 2014.1, the upcoming version of Audiokinetic’s acclaimed game audio middleware, to be released in early 2014.
PROXIMITY has been developed put the player into the acoustic epicenter of the game action, breaking through the limitations of conventional stereo and surround sound systems. By letting audio events appear with unparalleled intensity right next to the player’s ear, an ultra-precise, lifelike perception of important game audio effects such as shots, voices, explosions or environmental sounds is achieved. This new technology not only leads to better playing performance, but opens up new ways of storytelling for game developers and publishers. Any sounds that are relevant for gameplay are more important and can be used in a targeted manner to dramatically unfold the video game’s entire potential.
