Audiokinetic Wwise releases Dolby Atmos support, enabling immersive object-based audio for game development.

San Francisco, California – March 16, 2016 – Audiokinetic Inc., the leading global provider of cross-platform audio solutions for the interactive media and gaming industries, today announced the support of Dolby Atmos®, enabling object-based, immersive next-generation audio in video games.

Working closely with Dolby over the last year, Audiokinetic has laid the groundwork within the already-existing versions of Wwise® 2015.1, allowing developers to enable Dolby’s revolutionary audio system into their game productions. With Dolby Atmos, not only will gamers be able to experience the standard flat plane of surround sound, but will also have sounds above them, adding in an extra level of immersion to the game’s soundscape.

Martin Dufour, CTO of Audiokinetic, stated, “Dolby Atmos allows sound designers to take the best techniques of their existing pipelines, and add the benefits of the 3D world that their games are using. No longer will they need to flatten their sound design into a plane, they can use the true object position data from the game to move key sounds around the entire world space, truly immersing the player in the world they’ve created.”

The first games using Wwise and Dolby Atmos sound will begin shipping shortly.

“Audiokinetic’s Wwise is one of the leading audio tools in the game industry, with all top-tier publishers using it in many of their productions,” said Spencer Hooks, Director of Games. “Having Dolby Atmos and Wwise working together will allow hundreds of top developers around the world to bring their games alive with precision and realism, resulting in truly immersive audio experience for gamers.”
