Dive Underwater in Multitrack | New Strata SFX Collection: Submersion

Strata Tips & Tools

Dive and explore the underwater depths with the newest Strata collection, Submersion. This collaboration between Spectravelers and Audiokinetic will provide you with an extensive collection dedicated exclusively to underwater experiences and soundscapes.

About Spectravelers

We are two senior sound designers, each with over 10 years of experience each. Our shared passion for audio brought us together and drove us to propose and share our creative vision. Authenticity and originality are our top priorities when delivering innovative and immersive content. We believe that constraints lead to creativity, which is why we focus our libraries on a major constraint leading us to a theme.

Introducing Submersion Multitrack Collection

It’s a real pleasure for us to be able to deliver to you the multitrack version of this collection, allowing you more flexibility and creativity for your underwater scenes, whether that’s in a video game, movie, TV show, documentary, or even a museum exhibition.

The main idea behind this collection was to make it more modular than ever before, and that's precisely what Strata offers you; access to a brand-new multitrack format sound collection, specifically created for the occasion from Submersion originals sounds. This new version of Submersion now includes 174 source files and over 400 rendered files (over 10GB), offering endless creative possibilities through sound layering. In addition, the plugin suite provides you with enhanced flexibility in sound design, boosting your efficiency.

In this collection, you’ll find the main categories that made Submersion successful, such as Underwater Ambiences, Movements, and Explosions. Additionally, you’ll discover new & exclusive sound types that add even more depth and possibilities, such as Ambience Objects and the new Submarine category.

Our approach with Submersion involved the constraint of using only sources recorded with Aquarian H2A Hydrophones. We recorded in various locations to maximize the range of possibilities.

Finally, driven by our passion, we aimed to create as many designed sounds as possible to showcase the potential of our sources and expand Submersion's content with ready-to-use sounds. We view our sound banks as tools, which is why we're excited to offer you this new multitrack approach to discover underwater sounds.

What You’ll Find in the Submersion Collection

Underwater Ambience: In this category, we provide various layered soundscapes, such as Deep Sea Calm or Stormy, Volcano, Ice Movement, and more, and enable you to balance various elements such as low frequencies or amount of bubbles. But most of all, unlike the original Submersion ambiences, these new ambiences are available in different multichannel formats, from simple stereo to quad, 5.0, 7.0.4, ambisonics, and more. This will allow you to choose and modify the best format quickly and easily depending on your scene.

Ambience Objects: Here is the best place to find the sounds that will perfectly fit into your underwater soundscape. Each layered sound offers a new way to add detail and life to your scene. We have covered sounds like Lava, Hydrothermal Vent, Plants Movements, Creature Vocalizations, and more.

Explosion: As sound designers, we understand how complicated and time-consuming it can be to design explosions. That’s why we’re excited to introduce this section. Featuring several underwater explosion iterations by size (small, medium, and large), as well as type (Ice, Distant, Chemical). With each one in multitrack format, this section will allow you unique flexibility in crafting this kind of sound.

Movement: Probably one of the most interesting new categories; these sounds will allow you to bring life and authenticity to your characters, creatures or any moving/swimming underwater elements. The multitrack format lets you adapt the sounds at any type of swimming. The multitrack format, for instance, allows you to adjust the intensity of diving strokes, offering versatility for creatures and humans of various sizes diving underwater.

Submarine: Introducing an exclusive new category not originally part of Submersion. This addition enables you to craft an immersive submarine experience, including a diverse range of sounds such as some steady looping propellers sounds, pass bys at different speeds, torpedo launches, and more.
