We are updating the versioning of Wwise for 2025, departing from previous years’ versioning of beta releases.
We will increment the Minor version number for each Beta Release. This means Beta 2 will be Wwise 2025.1.1, Beta 3 will be Wwise 2025.1.2, and the production-ready version will be Wwise 2025.1.3. That version and all subsequent minor releases will be usable for Production and Deployment.
A Note on Compatibility During the Beta Cycle
As stated on the Wwise Versioning page, all Wwise versions sharing the same Major version are forward compatible. During the beta phase, we'll ship improvements and changes between releases based on your input. This means Beta 1, Beta 2, and Beta 3 will not be compatible with one another. Thanks for helping us iterate!
Full API stability and interchangeability will begin with the production-ready Wwise 2025.1.3 release. As is standard practice, beta versions will be unpublished when the official version is released, and updating to Wwise 2025.1.3 will be required. We appreciate your understanding as we integrate these improvements.
Why Are We Making This Change?
As we explained last year in the Wwise Release Cycle News post, our improved build pipeline allows us to develop and release multiple minor versions of Wwise simultaneously. To fully align with this more efficient workflow, our beta releases must adopt the same conflict-free branching system we successfully use for minor releases.
Incrementing the minor number for each beta is the most direct and effective way to achieve this for the Wwise 2025.1 cycle. We are continually refining our pipeline and are planning further improvements to streamline this process for future major releases.
