Wwise 2012.2 Now Available

Wwise 2012.2 is now available for download (released on September 5th, 2012). This new release focuses on new features, workflow enhancements, performance and bug fixes. Here is an overview of some of the new features.

Auxiliary Busses and Sends Volumes

Objects from the Actor-Mixer and the Interactive Music hierarchies can now send a portion of their signal to auxiliary busses using game-defined and user-defined auxiliary volumes.

The auxiliary busses replace and extend the previous Environment System.

Volume Enhancement

Volumes over 0 dB are now permitted everywhere in the hierarchies, allowing to boost quiet sources directly from Wwise. Beware not to clip the output though!

Meters

5.1 peak meters are now available on auxiliary busses, audio busses with inserted effects, and the master audio bus. These meters are displayed in the toolbar, the property editor, the master mixer console, and the mixing desk.

iZotope Effects

All iZotope Trash effects are now available for PS3. The Hybrid Reverb for PS3 is scheduled for a future release.

Wwise Project Adventure

The Wwise Project Adventure is a guide for creating a complete project produced by Damian Kastbauer. Based on a fictitious game, this comprehensive 249 page guide presents fundamental to advanced interactive audio techniques and approaches.

The document and companion Wwise Project, which includes working examples of the different techniques covered throughout the handbook, are accessible from the Wwise Installer.

PlayStation®Vita Hardware

A new version of the PS Vita is now available (VitaHW). This new platform provides enhanced performance through the use of the PS Vita's hardware DSP decoder and effects.

Wii U™

Audio on Wiimote and rumble on Wiimote and DRC is now supported. Delay, Peak Limiter and RoomVerb have been optimized by 2.3x to 4.4x on Wii U.

Custom Properties

It is now possible to add user-defined properties to sound and audio source objects and to query their values in-game. The custom properties are created in the Project Settings and are set through the following views:

  • Query Editor
  • List View
  • Multi-Editor

File Manager Enhancements

The Source Files tab of the File Manager is now using a tree control to show the list of files in a hierarchical way. It is also possible to submit changes directly from a folder using Perforce or Subversion and recursively submit files.

Subversion now available in 64-bit

Subversion source control plug-in was updated to version 1.7.5 and is now available in both 32-bit and 64-bit configurations.

Miscellaneous

  • Wwise Peak Limiter effect runs between 1.1x to 4.4x faster on the various platforms.
  • Multi-Editor: When selecting multiple object types, all properties of all object types are now displayed (previously, only common properties were shown).
  • The SoundBank Manager now preserves the expand/collapse state of the previous session.
  • The tree list controls in the SoundBank Manager now offer 'expand all' and 'collapse all' through Ctrl+click or the contextual menu over the +/- button.
