Some exercises will be practical examples and others will show you direct performance measurements. The purpose is to make the exercises and information more tangible, rather than just presenting theory. Tracking CPU performance is always a moving target, even on the same machine. Your performance will always be affected by other software solutions (defragmenters, virus scanners, online cloud storage, and so on) running concurrently. As such, you can try to close all other applications (not Wwise and Unity) to get the cleanest estimate, but you can never be sure the future players of your game won’t have various applications open in the background.
