Frontier Goes Wwise

Wwise to power Frontier's future titles.

Montreal, Canada. – October 14, 2008– Audiokinetic Inc., the leading Frontieraudio solution provider for the video game industry, announced today that its audio pipeline solution, Wwise®, will be used in the creation of Frontier Developments’ entire future output.

Frontier, the award-winning Cambridge, (UK)-based independent game studio, has several major projects in development - including the highly anticipated action thriller ‘The Outsider®’ - which will build on its outstanding track record of gameplay innovation, critical acclaim and commercial success that started with games created by its founder David Braben in the early 1980s such as Elite and Virus, and then, from Frontier, Dog’s Life, RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3, Thrillville and, most recently, LostWinds®.

After considering its options regarding state-of-the-art technology to be used for upcoming projects, Frontier decided to augment their game audio capability using Wwise for the development of its future titles.

“From now on, we plan to use Wwise across the board,” said David Braben, Frontier's Chairman and founder. “We make full use of audio to convey story, context and emotion in a compelling way - it’s a vital part of creating successful games. Wwise is a comprehensive, sophisticated set of tools that integrates well with our existing tool chain and keeps control in the hands of our audio designers, maximising their creative input and efficiency.”

The adoption of Wwise by yet another leading British studio strengthens Audiokinetic’s position in Europe. “There’s a tangible buzz about Wwise in Europe presently, especially in the UK,” commented André Nadeau, President and CEO, Audiokinetic. “Seeing leading European developers like Frontier adopt our technology is very exciting, and gives us a real edge.”
