Why does Wwise check out all Speech when importing a tab delimited text file

When I import a tab delimited text file to automate the creation of hierarchies and VO files, Wwise doesn't just check out the new files in perforce, it checks out thousands of others additionally, it takes quite some time to complete.

Why would this be and how can I stop it?

This issue (WG-31910) has been fixed in 2016.2.1:
