Similar Sound Search

Similar Sound Search searches audio files in your Media Pool databases for sounds that are similar to a selected file or to a description of a sound you type in the search field.

Similar Sound Search is an audio-to-audio or text-to-audio search functionality specifically designed for sound effects. It is an optional way to search for files and is disabled by default.

Similar Sound Search uses a non-generative learning model to place audio and text into a shared search space where sounds are grouped by both acoustic and semantic similarity. For more information about how Audiokinetic uses this learning model, from the Audiokinetic Solutions page, select Artificial Intelligence from the top menu.

Similar Sound Search is an option in the Packages menu when installing Wwise or modifying a Wwise installation. It is disabled by default.

To install Similar Sound Search:

  1. From the Audiokinetic Launcher Wwise page, do one of the following:

    • Select a version of Wwise to install and click Install.

    • From an installed version of Wwise, click Install options (wrench icon) and then select Modify.

  2. In the Packages list, select Similar Sound Search.

  3. Click Next.

  4. Click Install or Modify.

You can search and filter for similar files by the following two ways:

  • Audio Description: Searches using a text-to-audio retrieval. When you type a description of a sound, that description is used to find samples based on its audio content. Even if the resulting sound was recorded and tagged with a different purpose, a match might be possible. For example, you typed "footsteps in mud", one of the results could be a file that sounds similar but is tagged and obtained by "smashing fruits".

  • Audio Similarity: Searches using an audio-to-audio retrieval. Searches by using an audio example to find similar sounds. The audio sample that you select is used to find similar sounds to return in the Results pane.

To search by Audio Description:

  1. From the Selected Fields drop-down list, select Audio Description.

  2. Type in a phrase to describe the sound you are looking for. For example, "loud car crash".

The search dynamically returns files that sound similar to the description as type.

Filter the results using both Audio Similarity and Audio Description. See “Filtering databases”.
