Pre-Generation/Post-Generation Step Editor

The Pre-Generation/Post-Generation Step Editor allows you to build and edit global opening and closing command lines as well as command lines per platform. These command lines allow you to perform custom jobs either right before or right after the generation of your SoundBanks. For example, you can create a pre-generation step command line that checks out specific files from your source control system or you can create a post-generation command line that groups your SoundBanks into packages using the File Packager. You can load existing command lines that are provided with Wwise, or you can save your command lines to file so that you can use them across projects.

Since the same editor is used to define pre and post generation steps for all platforms, the following information is clearly displayed in the title bar:

  • Whether you are creating a pre or post-generation step.

  • The platform for which you are creating the command line.

  • Whether the command line is a project or user setting.

Interface Element

Description

Description

A name or other information that describes the type of commands that will be performed.

Commands

A form of command line shell where you can build the global and platform-specific command line(s).

You can perform several different jobs pre or post SoundBank generation by creating multiple global and platform-specific command lines.

Macros

Built-in Macros

A list of Wwise variables that are available for writing custom command lines.

For a description of each of these variables, refer to Defining Custom User Steps to be Performed Pre/Post SoundBank Generation.

Environment Variables

A list of Windows environment variables that can be used to write custom command lines.

Click the Configure Columns... shortcut (right-click) option from the column header band.

The Configure Columns Dialog opens. Specify which columns to display and their order.

Name

The name of the macro or environment variable.

Current Value

The current value or setting of the corresponding macro or environment variable. For example, if the Use SoundBank names option is selected in the SoundBank Settings group box, the current value for the macro $(UseSoundBankNames) would be set to true.

Adds the selected macro or environment variable to the command line.

The variable will either be added at the position of the cursor or will replace the selected text in the command line.

As an alternative to clicking Insert, you can simply double-click a variable in the list to add it to the command line.

Opens the Windows Open File dialog box where you can load a previously saved or factory command line. When you click the Load button, you can choose from the following options:

  • From Factory Folder - Opens the dialog box to the folder where the factory command lines are saved.

  • From Last Location - Opens the dialog box to the folder from which you last loaded a command line.

Saves the command line data as a .wcmdline file so that you can use the command lines you create at a later time, within the same project or across projects.

Saves the command line and closes the dialog box.

Closes the Pre-Generation/Post-Generation Editor without saving the command line.
