Filtering in the Profiling Views

Overview

When looking at a profiling session, it is not uncommon to have a lot data visible at the same time, making it difficult to clearly assess what is happening. You can filter the displayed data in most of the profiling views, making it possible to reduce the visual clutter and focus on the objects of interest.

A filtering toolbar is available in the following view(s):

Filtering Basics

Filtering in profiling views enables you to reduce the amount of information displayed in the views. Using the filtering toolbar, you can filter data in three ways:

Filtering Method Description
Text

The specified text is used to filter the content displayed in the view, discarding the elements that do not match.

Text filtering is case insensitive and matches its text with the beginning of names or strings found in the current view.

Each additional specified word refines the results.

For more advanced instructions, refer to Voice Explorer.

Object

The specified Wwise objects are used to match objects in the current view.

Additionally, object relations, such as parent-children relations and output bus relations, are also used to match content.

For example:

  • Specifying an Actor-Mixer or Container object also matches its descendant Sound objects.

  • Specifying a Bus object also matches the objects routed directly or indirectly to it.

Mute/Solo

When this option is activated, the objects with Mute enabled disappear from the results, while the objects with Solo enabled are displayed. The Mute/Solo fuction enables you to filter elements manually.

Clicking the Reset Mute or Reset Solo buttons in the Wwise toolbar resets the filter.

[Note] Note

Filtering the content of a profiling view does not affect the data recorded in the profiler capture session. It only affects the display of information.

Linked and Unlinked Filtering

By default, the filters in all profiling views are synchronized. This can be especially useful to correlate information between different data types in the profiling views.

A filter can be unlinked from the others by clicking the Link/Unlink button. When unlinked, the filter applies to the current view. This enables the current view to filter its content using different criteria than the synchronized filters. At any time, the filter can be linked again and the view is re-synchronized. Additionally, an unlinked filter can be promoted to the other views, effectively synchronizing the different views.

Operation Description

A Profiling sub menu is displayed when right-clicking a Game Object from the Profiling view. This also applies to most, though not all, objects within your project.

Main Menu

The Profiling main menu contains options to clear and synchronize the filters.

Text Filter Context Menu

The context menu in the Text Filter offers several pre-configured filter prefixes, such as bus:, event:, sound: and more.
