Adding Platforms

With Wwise the groundwork is already prepared for you, so all you need to learn is how to use the Platform Manager to add the different platforms. When you’ve added a platform, you can jump right away into customizing your content; no need to be a programmer or engineer to implement a new platform.

  1. In the toolbar, click the Platform Selector list.

You’ll notice that currently there are two platforms, Mac and Windows. Through the following steps, you’ll be asked to add two more platforms. Let’s now head to the manager that controls what platforms you’ve added in your project.

  2. From the Project menu, select Platform Manager….

In this manager you’ll see a list of all platforms added to the project. In the Platform column you’ll see the name of the platform, and in the Base Platform column you’ll see the platform SDK it uses.

  3. Click Add… and the Add Platform view will appear.

  4. Open the Base Platform list. Here you can select from a variety of platform SDKs.

The one we’ll be using throughout this lesson is Android.

  5. Select the Android™ platform from the Base Platform list.

Instead of starting from scratch configuring every audio object, Wwise offers to copy the settings from another platform.

  6. Open the Copy settings from list, and select the Windows platform.

This will copy all the settings from the Windows platform, like what Audio Objects are being included or excluded or how you configured the Conversion Settings.

  7. Click OK to add the Android platform.

In the Platform Manager you will now see the newly added Android platform. In the Pending Actions column, the message “Add, Copy Settings from Windows” will be shown. This action will not be set in motion until you press OK again.

  8. Click OK.

Be aware, that this next step is irreversible. When clicking OK, the Wwise project will be saved and reloaded.

  9. Click Yes.

  10. Click OK.

After the project reloads, you will see a new option in the Platform Selector.

  11. Click the Platform Selector, and check whether you can select the Android platform.

You’ve now added the Android platform, but you’re still missing iOS. Let’s now repeat the adding steps, this time for iOS.

  1. In the Platform Manager, click Add….

  2. Make sure the Base Platform is set to iOS, the Copy Settings From is set to Windows and click OK.

  3. Go through the validation steps seen in steps 9 and 10 above. After your project reloads, you can verify iOS is now in the Platform Selector.
