WWise Certification with Major 2022.1.0.8070 - Ok to Install?

0 votes
New to Wwise - want to run the certification projects.

Installing the new Major version Ok?

Also  - ok to install all the plug-ins and Win, Mac and Android, or does that interfere with the courses?

I would like to install all things needed at once to continue working with all the plug-ins and platforms going forward.

Thank you!!!

Hello,

We do not recommend using Wwise 2022.1.0 for any of the certifications, at this moment.
https://www.audiokinetic.com/en/courses/wwise101/?source=wwise101&id=installing_wwise#read

Here are a few reasons why...

  1. There are only minor differences. So if you learn to use Wwise 2021.1, you'll certainly be able to use Wwise 2022.1. If there are any differences, you'll have no problem understanding how to use it in a newer MAJOR version. It's all about better understanding how game audio works.
  2. The course documentation will be 100% accurate with your own project if you use the version specified in the course. So no moved properties or views.
  3. You'll have better chances of getting help when stuck. If you are using a newer MAJOR version of Wwise, we (and other students) will have a lot harder helping you, as we're all using a different version for the course content.
  4. You'll need to upgrade the Wwise projects yourself, and for a beginner, you might not know how to fix the errors and so on.

I hope this illustrates how "problematic" it might be to use a different Major version than specified in the course content.
Long story short, you are NOT going to miss anything by NOT using the newest Wwise version.

Good luck with the course!

Thank you so much for clarifying the reasons.
I will install it as it's designed for the course.
Thanks for the response!
Sorry but this is not OK. To discover that the tutorial doesn't work on the latest, and there is also no help to be found on how to get through the tutorial on the latest... just... NOT OK. Please post updates to the tutorial, and also in the meantime post updates on how to work around the existing tutorial while using the latest Wwise. PLEASE!
