Wwise 2019.1.11 Crash on Open

0 votes
Hi there,

I have recently started to experience a Crash for Wwise 2019.1.11 when trying to undergo the Wwise 301 course on a MacBook Pro M1 Pro Monterey 12.6 . I managed to install everything correctly and even had a play with the game and inside Wwise but it was late and I was gonna start the course in the following days. When trying to open WAG from within the Wwise launcher the 2019.1.11 version crashes instantly and the error log stated that the python framework is missing. Having installed a different version, when trying to open WAG in 2019.1.11 it instantly opens it in the most recent other version that is available and I cannot reproduce the log anymore. I can try uninstalling all other versions in order for the log to pup-up again.

I have managed to find 1 or 2 posts about this and one, mentioning the python framework removal and that the app still looks for it, hence the crash. One of the audiokinetic employees responded that the only workaround was using particular versions which do not work with the 301 course.

I was wondering if anyone else found any other workarounds. I do have an update notification for macOS Ventura but I am reluctant to update as not sure how stable this version is and this might cause even more problems. I have tried purchasing a pay2go support ticket but AudioKinetic does not allow to purchase them for courses. Not sure how else I will be able to go through this if I cannot get Wwise 2019.1.11 to open and if there is literally no way to access support for their products.

Thank you

I encountered the same problem when opening 251 in OS Catalina... but I figured out that the solution was to don't open any wwise project in newer versions, neither save them. Therefore, uninstall all unity and wwise middleware. And reinstall all software just for the course. Then, when opening the applications don't allow to update to newer versions.

There is unfortunately no known workaround other than using a more recent version of Wwise, e.g., 2019.2, to complete the course.

I can provide some more information as to what the problem is and why there is no other workaround: because the Python framework that got removed is located under /System/Library/Frameworks and this location is protected by macOS' System Integrity Protection, there is no way to add back the missing Python framework since the location is read-only.

Every OS system high than 12 is highly likely not going to do Wwise 301, because either 2019.1 not support OS 12/13 and any newly OS system, nor Wwise Adventure Game don't gives a certification for 2019.2. Hope Audiokinetic can solve this problem as soon as possible!
We are working on a fix, it'll take a bit of time. In the meantime, I suggest proceeding with a newer version of Wwise. Wwise-301 is not as impacted as Wwise-251, so most of Wwise-301 will be the same just with minor UI differences.
The fix has now been released as a newer package of 2019.1.11: you will need to reinstall Wwise 2019.1.11 to get the new package that supports Monterey and up.
