Is there a way to mark work units as dirty through WAAPI?

I'm looking for a way through WAAPI to prompt the user to checkout a work unit.
If I execute the waapi command "WorkgroupCheckoutWWU" using ak.wwise.ui.commands.execute, the work unit gets checkout without any prompt.

However, if the work unit is dirty and then I try save the project through waapi, the "Pending Source Control Operation" dialog appears allowing the user to choose whether or not checkout the work unit.
Therefore I was thinking to mark the work unit as dirty. Is there a specific way?
