We would like to have a platform-independent way of getting what output device type is currently being used.
 

For example, are they using headphones? TV? Speakers? etc..

All I've seen so far is something that lets you know the name of the device, but that's just a string that changes based on the brand, the language that windows is set to, and it can even be customized by the user.

We would like to have something that tells you what kind of device it is, so that the audio settings can be automatically set to whatever's optimal for headphones, a TV, a soundbar, etc..
