Wwise integration - Standalone using API

Hi all.Been a while since i was here. I'm looking for a way to package a standalone app without getting into unity etc. Is it possible ? WOuld only really need a basic interface - play stop, volume fader etc. Am i barking up the wrong tree or is just using unity the way to go ? Is unreal engine easier ?
