How do I get an RTPC to work?

Just a basic rtpc. There is an object with a looped sound that gets louder the closer you get. I have assigned a SFX a volume RTPC in Wwise. Are there scripts I need to add to the object in Unity?

For this I would just create a 3D sound, and use normal distance attenuation. Is  there a reason you need a custom RTPC?
