Multiple Monitors on Mac

Are multiple monitors supported on Mac? When I try to drag a floating window to another monitor, it either disappears or snaps back to the main monitor. If it disappears, I can sometimes get it back by switching to another View and back (and it'll again reappear on the main monitor).
