I'm using Unreal engine 4.14 and Wwise 2016.2.1.5995. The Wwise plugin installed correctly (I think) as it shows up in the Unreal "plugins" folder and is activated. However I can connect the Wwise project to Unreal project, but it won't show me that their are avaiable banks to generate in Unreal, even though there are banks in Wwise. I'm new to Wwise, so it might be something I'm doing wrong.

Hey James,

There is an extra step when integrating Wwise in Unreal 4.  The basic workflow is outlined here.  You're likely missing steps 2 & 4 which is creating Wwise events and sound banks within Unreal.
