Wwise and surround monitoring

+1 vote
Hello!

I need to setup 5.1 monitoring enviroment to use with Wwise. It seems like there's no possibility to change the used device in wwise, it automatically sets to defualt windows sound card. Or maybe I'm wrong?

My current audio interface doesn't support working as a system sound card, so it looks like I need another interface. I think the most convinient solution would be - an interface that works with windows and wwise and then sends all channels digitally to my current setup. Any recomendations that will work as 5.1 or 7.1 configuration with wwise?

Best,

Marcin

Hi Marcin. I'm not sure I've ever heard of an audio interface that can't be set to the default sound card in Windows. What is the name of your sound interface? Which version of windows are you using? Do you have a 5.1 system connected through S/PDIF or optical, or is it analog out from the interface?
Those of us running Pro Tools HD have to jump through a lot of hoops on Mac in order to use the HD cards (HD Native, HDX) for default system audio.  This is why it's possible to set audio output to Avid/Digidesign in Logic, Cubase, Reaper, Final Cut and others.

I'm encountering this very problem:  OS X, Avid HD Native Card, Tascam DSM-7.1 surround controller.  I do surround all day long in Pro Tools but have so far been completely incapable of getting WWise to acknowledge my HD Native card.
Thanks for the replies guys.
My interface is HD omni, and I guess that's why it's not visible by windows.
Anyways, I solved the problem with ADAT card, that can be set as default 5.1/7.1 speaker in windows 7. Than I'm going out thru ADAT to PT and I have it running.
But! I've noticed some unexpected behavior from wwise.

when positioning the sound in the surround field and using Center percentage all the way up to 100% I still have nothing on the meters in the center channel... is it a bug or am I missing something? Wwise build: 5195

Hi Marcin,

it's impossible to configure directly your 5.1 in windows with M-Audio / Avid / Focusrite / Motu interface. Wwise use the driver windows. So i found the perfect sound card for this. It's Rme Fireface 400 / 800. You can configure directly in your windows sound settings the routing for the 5.1 and wwise run perfectly with thoose interfaces.

does that still apply for mac users? I have a motu express 6x6 and surround doesn't work. I'm trying to make the sound coming out from the rear speakers but it simply doesn't show any signal (also in the front panel of the audio interface) when moving the source to the rear sides. weirdly enough, when I use nuendo or white noise from the midi audio setup preferences, that works. is there any compatibility problem between wwise and some audio interfaces?
Stefano — did you ever get an answer for this?
did you succeed to do it? I really need to output multichannel with my MOTU sound card and it doesn't seem to work.
