Can't hear sound FX in the game engine after generating soundbank in Wwise?

Hi There,

I am following the online introductory tutorial about how to integrate audio into The Cube game engine.

I have completed lesson 1 and I believe I have followed all the instructions to the point that when I run the game engine I should hear the shotgun sound when I fire the gun in the game.  I do not.

Please could someone advise?  I am on a Mac operating Mojave 10.14 and Version 1.0.36 (2019.2.6.7381) of WWise.

The sound appears to be correctly linked in Wwise to an event which has been added to a soundbank  which was then generated to the location specified in the film.  I can play the sound in WWise and the white colour of the audio object  indicates that the SFX file is linked in and has been converted as expected.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Dave.

Hi David,

Thanks for the very explanatory description. Usually, we do not advise to use a newer version of Wwise, than what the certification has been reviewed for. I can see you're using Wwise 2019.2.x whereas we advise using the latest Wwise 2019.1.x version. That said, it should still work in this case, so let's try to figure out why.

1) First thing I notice is that you are using Mac. Did you add the Mac platform to the Wwise Project? If not, you can add it in the Platform Manager

2) Next up, I would check whether the Event was somehow not added to the SoundBank. A quick way to see this is to look in the "Data Size" column in the Soundbank Manager. If it's not 0, with your platform selector set to Mac, you should be all good.

If that doesn't work, try to hook up the profiler again and see if you get any errors when starting the game? You can connect to a running game before it starts by connecting to the IP 127.0.0.1.

Let me know if this helps!

Hi there,

Please can somebody help.  I am experiencing a similar issue (a year on) to before.

I have just completed Lesson 1 of Course 101 using Wwise version 21.1.4.7707 and Cube Game version 21.4.7707.

Ive published the sound data I expect to hear when I preview the game and I hear nothing.  When I run the Profiler only two messages (in yellow) appear. Sound Engine Versions 21.1.4 and Wwise Authoring Versions 21.1.4.

Could somebody tell me where I am going wrong?  The same thing happens when using the 21.1.5 version of both as well.

It is a mystery to me.  If somebody could advise it would be much appreciated and I can share some screen shots to help I can do this.

Speak soon,

Dave
It needs to be in a folder titled Mac inside the soundbank folder. Wwise does not autogenerate the Mac folder.

I faced the same issue, and later realized that it was because I deleted the folder "Windows" under C:\Program Files (x86)\Audiokinetic\Wwise 2022.1.3.8179\Cube\cube\soundbanks.

Delete only the contents inside the Windows folder, and ensure the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Audiokinetic\Wwise 2022.1.3.8179\Cube\cube\soundbanks\Windows remains.

Doing this helped me fix the missing ice gem blast sound when I generated a new soundbank in Lesson 1.
