Wwise Launcher won't open - syntax error: unexpected token - PLEASE HELP??

0 votes

Hi there,

My PC crashed when working on a Unity & Wwise project yesterday, and upon restart, the Wwise Launcher wouldn't open at all. Eventually, after many attempts, an error box popped up with the following:

"An error occurred. we are sorry for the inconvenience. if you were in the middle of an installation, please restart the Wwise Launcher and try again. details: syntax error: unexpected token"

I have uninstalled, cleaned the remaining folders from my %programfiles% and %appdata% folders, and reinstalled multiple times, but to no avail - every time, the same error appears and Wwise won't open at all.

I have tried 'force' opening it in any way I can think of but still nothing. At this point, I can't open the launcher in any way, and therefore can't open Wwise. I had been working on this project for some time, and so even though I've downloaded an old version of Wwise, it obviously can't open the file I was working on, as it was from the newest version.

I don't know what else to do, but I can't use the program whatsoever and it's really disappointing because I can't find a solution online anywhere. It seems to be a scripting error of some sort, but I know next to nothing about programming so wouldn't have a clue where to start to try and find and solve the problem if it's definitely a scripting issue.

If anyone at all can help, I would be greatly appreciative, I don't know what to do.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro (version 20H2) on a 64bit OS - if people need more information then please let me know and I'd be happy to provide.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Matthew!

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such difficulties. Here's what you could try to do:

First of all, your Wwise installation can work without the Wwise Launcher. It's not ideal, but could allow you to work on your project until we can figure out the problem with the Launcher. By default, Wwise is installed under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Audiokinetic\Wwise %version%". To start Authoring manually, you can launch "%instalaltionFolder%\Authoring\x64\Release\bin\Wwise.exe".

Now, for the actual Launcher issue. The error seems to indicate a serious problem with the Launcher code itself, not the PC's configuration. Did you install/reinstall the Launcher from the official source (i.e. audiokinetic.com)? There's a slight chance that the installation package is in some way corrupted.

Please try the following steps (none of this will influence your Wwise installations, just the installation of Wwise Launcher):

  1. Uninstall the Launcher from "Add or remove programs"
  2. Delete the following folders/files (if present):
    • The Launcher installer (WwiseLauncher.msi)
    • %appdata%/WwiseIssueReporter, %appdata%/WwiseLauncher and "%appdata%/Wwise Launcher"
    • %appdata%/Electron
    • %temp%/WwiseLauncher, %temp%/WwiseIssueReporter
    • "C:\Program Files\Wwise Launcher"
  3. Restart your PC (I know it's a cliche, but the MSI installer may need this to fully "forget" the previous installation)
  4. Re-download the installer from audiokinetic.com
  5. Install the Launcher again and try to use it.

I hope this resolves your issues! If not, please post the logs found in "C:\Users\opalokha\AppData\Local\Temp\WwiseLauncher\Log"

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply - I eventually managed to sort the problem by going deep into the guts of my PC and removing every trace of the previous installation - I followed the guide here: https://www.auslogics.com/en/articles/how-to-remove-software-leftovers/

and I think deleting the files from the registry was what saved it in the end. (Don't worry, I safely backed everything up first!)

Thanks for your reply - I managed to sort it before I saw your reply in the end, but thanks so much for taking the time to get back to me.
Hi there,
I encountered the same issue this morning after an update of the launcher.
Big freeze of the system, need to hard reboot.
Exact same error.
Tried a clean uninstall-reinstall with deleting the Wwise launcher related register keys, problem still occurs.
I was looking for an older version of the launcher but cannot find any on Audiokinetic's website.
I will just give up still it has blocked me for too long.
Hopefully I can launch the wwise projects and do not have to use any other features of the launcher for now.
I will wait for an update of the launcher to see if it fixes this problem for me.
