Stinger should be able to trigger a playlist.  It can only trigger a segment which has it's limitations,  It would be nice to be able to use all the functionality that already exists in the playlists.

Hi Monty.

Have you tried adding a Music Event Cue in your stinger? This should allow you to connect any Event to a specific time in the Music Segment.

That's a great idea, Mads!  Although I assume there would be some inherent latency with that?  Ideally a stinger would be able to reference a playlist directly so the sync would be spot on.
So after looking into this, yes it might cause some delay depending on whether you stream your music. Here's why. Referencing Music Segments in Event Cues will always result in the "Music Track look-ahead time (ms)" being applied and if you are streaming any of your music, you will need look-ahead time. Safest solution is to either not stream any music, or reference non-music structure from Music Event Cues.
OK, thanks for clarification.
