Priority Offset over Distance

Due to the nature of combat and health in WAG, there will be objects that don’t really matter at a far distance, but become vital to your survival at close distance. One example is the Volcanic Boulders; they are only harmful when impacting nearby the Adventurer. The Volcanic Boulder is very important to hear up close but, as it gets more distant, it becomes less important and non-threatening. When changing priority on distance, the priority is linked to the attenuation. Let’s set the priority settings for the Volcanic Boulder.

  1. In the Project Explorer, expand Actor-Mixer Hierarchy > Default Work Unit > World > Objects > Objects > Object_Destruction > Object Destruction and select Destruction_VolcanicBoulder.

  2. Select the Advanced Settings tab. In the Playback Priority group box, enable the Override Parent checkbox and set the priority to 90.

  3. Select the Offset priority by checkbox and set it to -30.

As such, from minimum to maximum attenuation distance of the Volcanic boulders, the priority will gradually change from 90 to 60.

[Note]

Setting priorities handles the logic of how Wwise sorts your sounds, which is best tested while playing the game in many different situations and scenarios. Upon finishing this chapter, you’ll be asked to evaluate the performance using a few tips and tricks.
