I see a Mac OS SDK download on the Wwise downloads page along with Mac Unity Integration and a Mac Unity Integration Demo. In the Wwise Unity Integration Documentation one of the steps in the 'How To: Set up a Unity project to use the integration' section says:

  • Prerequisites

Assume that you have already done the following:
    • Created a Wwise project using the Wwise authoring tool and generated the SoundBanks for your target platform(s)

But back on the downloads page it says:

Note: The Wwise authoring application is Windows-based only (32 and 64 bits).

I am new to Wwise maybe I am missing something simple.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Aaron,

Historically, the Wwise authoring application used to create a project has been Windows only. The sound engine (the runtime part of Wwise running in the game) has always run on Mac and that’s identified as the ‘target platform’ in the text.

Now, we have beta versions of the Wwise authoring tool running on Mac that have been distributed in the last months and we will soon ship the first official Mac version. Different options are available to you:

  • You may create your Wwise project on Windows for now and generate Mac SoundBanks for your game.
  • We could grant you access to a beta version of Wwise authoring on Mac knowing that it contains some limitations at this point.
  • Wait a few weeks to get the first officially supported version of Wwise on Mac.

Tell us what’s preferable and we’ll try to accommodate you as much as we can.

Hey Simon, thanks for the response. What are the limitations with the beta. My main interest is getting the Astound Sound 3d audio up and running. Would this work in the Mac beta?

On an unrelated note, Is it possible to trigger audio events in Wwise via a MIDI file?
Is it possible, that i can get a Beta too?
would be great.
